Off to see the Wizard

Well, this won't be much of a post, because i really need to go to bed, as i need to catch a train in the morning... but, for anyone who cares, i'm going to Leeds tomorrow to meet Colin Barnes at the Centre for Disability Studies, and to try to find out if it's possible for me to get onto the MA in Disability Studies this year...

(I just spoke on the phone to my friend about it and her reaction was "wow, Colin Barnes? He's a legend"... i'm not really into academic hero worship, but the reaction amused me slightly, since he's only a "legend" to people who have heard of him, and i don't know if that's many... he is pretty much one of the founding fathers, along with Mike Oliver, of the social model of disability, tho...)

Not sure if i will really get what i want from this trip (as Colin Barnes said in his email to me that he didn't know anything about student funding, which is probably true, as academics themselves probably don't really hear about that sort of stuff... and there are other people and groups in Leeds who i really should have organised to meet while up there, for activist and social networking purposes, but didn't, because my head has been all over the place... but i'm still pretty excited about it, even if i probably am going to have to go to Leeds a couple more times to sort everything out that i wanted to get sorted this time...

Massive thanks to the lovely and awesome M, if she's reading this, for buying me my train ticket :)

Will post about how it went when i get back... i am sure it will provide some blogspiration...

Looking forward to hearing how it went.

I felt similarly to your friend about meeting Colin Barnes. 'Exploring Disability' was a life-changing book for me. So it was all bit overwhelming. :D
